Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains

Origin
Dessert wines were first made on the Constantia Estate in the late 1660s and were celebrated in the literature of Austen, Dickens and Baudelaire. Produced in the oldest winemaking area in the Western Cape from hand harvested, shrivelled grapes. Released after four years.
Taste
Fresh, floral muscat aromas with a hint of spice, and a rich, opulent palate of stone-fruits, nuts, vanilla, wood spices and honey. Well balanced by crisp acidity with a long, succulent finish.
Enjoy
This wine can age for up to twenty years, but if you can't resist it the wine is eminently drinkable now with tarte tatin or creme brûlée.

  • A Firm Favourite

"This gorgeous dessert wine has been a firm favourite of mine ever since I attended a Fine Wine evening at a colleague's house and was lucky enough to try the 2000 vintage that she had hidden away for 5 years! I bought a bottle of the 2005 vintage last Autumn, and having laid it down for a year I simply couldn't wait any longer. I wasn't disappointed! This wine always makes me think of a Tarte aux Poires - not necessarily for it's food matching potential but more because of it's flavour characteristics; It has very rich but very pure fruit flavours like those delivered by ripe pears, and a richness, depth and sweetness reminiscent of fine pastry, alongside an altogether viscous syrup-like texture - all topped off by an elegant nuttiness. This wine has been written about by Charles Dickens, and Jane Austen dubbed it 'a cure for a broken heart'. The caramelised fruit tart like flavours in this wine complemented Toffee Cheesecake beautifully which is also full of flavour yet light bodied and not too heavy. Superb value on our South African offer and it's sweetness is completely natural! Definitely one for the Autumn and Winter months as it practically leaves you glowing."
