Grape

Barbera

Origin
The Piedmont region of Northern Italy, surrounded by the Alps, is home to Italy's third most planted grape variety - Barbera. Barbera d'Asti has the most vines, with many of the vineyards planted on the lower slopes and in sheltered areas resulting in fresher styles.
Taste
Intense aromas of red cherries, vanilla, rose petals and spice leap from the glass, with the intense, powerful palate exhibiting an elegant balance of fruit and tannin to a long, smooth and crisp finish.
Enjoy
Drinkable now, matched with salumi or antipasti, or aged for up to 6 years. The wine will benefit from being decanted before drinking.

    Typically good Barbera

Unmistakable rose fragrances and vanilla. Cherries with good length truly representative of the Barbera grape. If you love classy Piedmonteese wines, this is for you! (2011 vintage)

    very disappointing and over-priced

a poor example. not an expensive wine in italy and you should be able to do much better for 10 pounds. the de forville barbera d'alba is much better, rich and smooth - 4 stars

    Tasty

Very good with pizza and I imagine other signature Italian dishes. Good nose and length

  • "Much more convincing than the same producer's Dolcetto (84 points) this has ripe cherry and berry fruit with a background of coffee and spice. The palate has lots more coffee and rich, full oak and fruit sweetness. This is balanced too, however, with a herbal lift to the fruit and plenty of creamy depth and length. Buy any two De Forville wines until end of October 2009 bringing the equivalent bottle price down to £9.99. Score: 89/100 "
