One of the standout wines from the main Pauillac Union des Grands Crus tasting, the 2007 Lynch Bages shows a good, classically Pauillac nose of cassis, kirsch, cedar and graphite. The palate has a nicely fresh acidity and ripe tannins. This isn't a blockbuster along the lines of 2005 but this is classy winemaking for the vintage and fans of the property can buy with confidence. Drink 2012-2020. 16.2 points (out of 20)

"Heady nose with lots of opulent ripe black fruit flavours and velvety texture but no real grip. Not really very fresh. A bit tired. (I wonder whether this was a sample problem?) Very drying tannins. Julia, tasting the same sample, found less flesh on the palate than the nose suggested. 15.5 points (out of 20)."

"Berry and currant on the nose and palate, with medium body, fine tannins and a slightly dilute finish. 85-88 points."
