76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot. With a strict selection (60% of the crop in the grand vin) and a reduced proportion of Merlot than normal this year's Calon is a sturdy, pleasantly old-fashioned wine dominated by elegant Cabernet characteristics and a hint of minerality. There's some nice berry fruit on the finish and for all its very traditional flavour profile the tannins and acidity are well balanced. In common with the vintage this will be a relatively early drinking wine for a property that normally demands great patience - drink between 2012-2020. 16.3 points (out of 20)

"Bright crimson but not blackish purple exaggeration. Sweet start, some gentle fully ripe fruit. Very searing St-Estèphe tannins on the finish but there is definitely juice and flesh here. Neat, dry finish. Very competent. An attempt at gentle texture without sacrificing anything to too much technique. 16.5 points (out of 20)."

"Fresh and fruity, with lovely currant, blackberry and smoke character. Medium body, fine tannins and a clean, fresh finish. Refined and delicate. 87-90 points."
