Grape

Garnacha

Origin
Northen Spain offers some of the most classic expressions of Garnacha (or Grenache), with this wine being a notable example, made from grapes harvested from ancient 'wild' bush vines in the mountainous Moncayo end of the Ebro Valley.
Taste
Powerful aromas of wild berries and tobacco leaf are tempered by a sense of freshness and floral edges. The middleweight palate has ripe red fruit and a Burgundian minerality, with subtle French oak.
Enjoy
Drink with barbecued red meats or spicy chorizo.

grenache, but not as we know it

not sure why but not always a fan of new world grenache. this old world version is classy and great value too. lovely juicy berries, chocolate and grainy tannins. there is a nod to burgundy which i love. even better on day 2 and went superbly with barbecued food. really good and shows why spain can become a powerhouse again now its reinventing itself.

Very good example of what can be done with Grenache/garnacha grape

Very good food wine (makes a great partner with a good steak), keenly priced at the 2 bottle discount. Good raspberry flavours with subtle vaniila from the oak and a hint of violets.

  • Very juicy, pure Grenache fruit (2010 Vintage)

"Very juicy, pure Grenache fruit. Clean and modern and modish. Finishes simply but satisfyingly. (Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 25th May 2012)"

  • a truly delectable freshness (2010 Vintage)

"Despite being the main variety in famous wines such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape, grenache – or garnacha as it is known in Spain – has never had the cachet of more famous red grapes. Things have been changing recently, though, thanks to glorious reds such as this one, which has a truly delectable freshness beneath its exuberant raspberry and blackberry fruit. (David Williams, The Observer, 20th May 2012)"

  • It's a stunner (2010 Vintage)

"This youthful, strikingly packaged Garnacha comes from the Ribera del Quielles region of northern Spain. It's made from young vines - hence, in part, its juiciness - and it's a stunner, with lots of sweet bramble and raspberry fruit, hints of pepper and clove spice and a palate-cleansing finish. If you like your Garnacha fresh rather than baked, you'll love this wine. (Tim Atkin, TimAtkin.com, 5th May 2012)"
