    2006-great, 2007-

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2006 vintage, but my recent order of 36 bottles was the 2007. It was a great disappointment, the previous smooth flavour has been lost to a rather sharp tang. Drinkable, but no more.

Excellent wine both in value and taste

We spend one month a year in Aberdeenshire and enjoy a bottle of red wine each day. Rarely do we find what we want at the local shops but this Wakefield cab from Majestic was a real surprise. Full-bodied and very drinkable.

Well made, excellent value for money

A step up from some big, 'in-your-face' Aussie cab sauvs. Wakefield has a stellar reputation and this wine is no disappointment. I found it very much a New World style - bright purple colour: the nose was variously described by our group as Provencal herbs, mint, bell peppers and cured ham. There was good berry fruits on the palate, some green capsicum flavours but a nice layer of vanilla. You could drink now but I'd be tempted to leave for a year to knock-off the slightly rough edges. Very good value, a good expression of Clare Valley expertise. From 2011, 16.5/20

    Robust, peppery cab

We've ordered this wine a couple of times now and are never disappointed. A big cab with peppery notes and smooth finish. Great with beef stew on a cold Sunday night!!

Staff Reviews

  • "This Cabernet Sauvignon has been a family favourite since it arrived at Majestic. This award winning estate never fails to impress and is always opened at BBQs and gatherings. It's superbly balanced with full bodied aromas of redcurrents, cassis and licorice which goes well with red meats or a Sunday Roast. "

Press Reviews

  • The nose is an explosion (2009 Vintage)

"If you're looking for a quiet, understated red, skip this. If you want something that shouts Clare Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon, this is your wine. The nose is an explosion of cassis and mint framed by chocolate, and the palate is full, and smooth with nutmeg and cinnamon coming from the oak. It's not complex, but it works because of the clarity and freshness of the flavours. (The Wine Gang, www.thewinegang.com, July 2012)"

  • A single-varietal wine at its best (2009 Vintage)

"A single-varietal wine at its best, with the structure and power of Cabernet Sauvignon harnessed and expressed in a full, rich and concentrated mouthful, with typical tastes of leather, tar, mint and eucalyptus underpinning the intense dark-fruit flavours. A perfect match for robust casseroles or, if you are planning an Aussie-style event in defiance of the winter weather, with barbecued meats. (Terry Kirby, INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY, 22nd January 2012)"
