  • A bottle of Rully Blanc 2005 Vincent Baron

"It is always a pleasure when a new arrival impresses and, for under a tenner, this does seriously impress! Produced on sandy soils in the Côte Chalonnaise, Rully is normally early drinking and this example is no exception. The fully mature palate of hazelnuts intermingled with ripe green apple and citrus fruit give a truly outstanding value for money Burgundy. A must try with roast chicken."

  • A bottle of Clos d'Yvigne Le Petit Prince 2005 Côtes de Bergerac

Clos d'Yvigne Le Petit Prince 2005 Côtes de Bergerac

"Bergerac is a wine-producing region formerly popular but now lost in the rush to internationalisation. However, the best wines remain as characterful reminders of times past and, like many ‘old fashioned’ wines, go brilliantly with the foods produced locally. Drink this with charcuterie or game to make both the food and wine sing – the slightly dusty tannins, dark fruit and pronounced acidity are spot on. This is no throwback though – the bonus is that modern winemaking techniques mean the wine is 100% correct too, without too much local character!"

"When tasting here at head office we often say of new world Pinot that, if they were Burgundy, they would fetch many time the price we currently sell them for, and this is a prime example. Fantastic quality, strawberry-scented fruit, just a touch of new oak, and real class. Not cheap but a genuine bargain at the current offer price."
