About buying Fine Wine at Majestic
Feel free to mix Fine Wines with “regular” wines to make up your order of 12 bottles (or more!) in total. However, at least 6 bottles must be Fine Wine products, because Fine Wines require special distribution from our temperature-controlled Fine Wine Centre in London.

"The Jomain siblings have been running this Domaine since the early 1990's. This Puligny-Montrachet shows crushed hazelnuts, fresh peach and brioche on the nose , followed by layers of honey, grapefruit and minerals on the palate. Try this old world classic with organic roast chicken."

  • A bottle of Wither Hills Pinot Noir 2006 Marlborough

Wither Hills Pinot Noir 2006 Marlborough

This remarkable wine offers an enticingly fragrant bouquet of ripe berries complimented by a full lingering palate.

    • Silver medal IWC 2006

"All wines arriving in our depot are tasted straightaway for quality control. A full mixed container of NZ Pinot Noirs provided an interesting comparison, coincidentally up against a couple of good Nuits St Georges from Burgundy. While obviously a new world Wither Hills is also clearly a classy wine. There is lots of fruit, but well balanced and not at all jammy. Laid over the top are new oak aromas, but again classily done. If this were from Burgundy we'd be ecstatic!"

  • A bottle of Rioja Reserva 2004 Muga

    Rioja Reserva 2004 Muga

Muga's Reserva has a lovely bouquet of vanilla and strawberry aromas that follow through elegantly on the palate. (Spain)

    • D

"I've been following the Muga family wines since first tasting their 1987 vintage many years ago, and finally persuaded them to sell to Majestic during my years as a buyer in the early 1990s. The wines are unashamedly old-fashioned, being made in huge wood vats and fined using egg white. Unlike many modern Riojas they retain the traditional soft, strawberry fruit character and are fantastically balanced. This offering, from the amazing 2004 vintage, will age effortlessly for up to 20 years."

"Distinct tones of smoky bacon, black pepper, blackcurrant and violets promise a palate which does not disappoint, with chocolate, sweet plum and spice. Well-structured tannins and a soft, rounded body will make this wine a perfect accompaniment with steak. "

Casa Lapostolle - Cuvée Alexandre Merlot 2006 Colchagua Valley

This fine Merlot from one of Casa Lapostolle's low-yield single vineyard sites is deep purple in colour offering sweet berry fruit and nicely integrated oak.

    • D

"Alexandra Marnier-Lapostolle, the French founder of this innovative Chilean winery, has produced a wine which can be enjoyed young or cellared for 3-5 years. This fine Merlot offers sweet blackberry and redcurrant fruit with hints of pencil lead and dark chocolate, and has great structure and balance."

"I've been with Majestic for 17 years (albeit never with responsibility for this region) but I still struggle with the complexities of Burgundy. What I do is rely on our buyers to taste, and taste, and taste... and then produce interesting parcels of high quality wine, often from producers I’ve never heard of. Far from the weedy, acidic wines some ‘top’ producers dole out, this is lush, rich and tasty. With just a hint of new oak to balance the fruit, in Burgundian terms it’s a major ‘bargain’. I’d recommend drinking it with food that’s relatively simple to avoid overpowering it - sirloin steak, tomato salad and fresh baguette would be perfect!"
