A nose of nettles and grass leads to generous gooseberry flavours with a smoky herbal twist on the palate reminiscent of a well crafted Sancerre.
"A New Zealand sauvignon blanc with some real complexity and finesse, combining fresh grass, grapefruit and gooseberry with some gunflint smokiness and minerality. Something like a goats cheese tart would be an ideal match but it will happily stand up to turkey with all the trimmings!"

Pale yellow with flecks of green this young, highly aromatic wine boasts fresh tropical and exotic fruits combined with freshly cut grass and subtle notes of lime and pineapple.
"This fresh and fruity Sauvignon blanc from the up and coming Elqui Valley region of Chile is really one to look out for. Giving all the rich character you would normal associate with the famous Sauvignons of Marlborough in new Zealand this is fantastic value and received a trophy in the Decanter World Wine Awards."

Large fluctuations in temperatures in Galicia preserve and intensify the aromatics, resulting in a wine with ripe apple and rose petal aromas and a fresh, silky palate. (Spain)
"Boosted by the strong Spanish economy, in recent years the quality of winemaking there has leapt incredibly, especially outside the well-known regions with less of an export market. Made by a husband and wife team in the Galicia region, and from the frankly obscure Godello grape, this would have been a tough sell until recently. However, it's time to plough your own furrow and try this, because it's lovely. There is a great tradition of fantastic fish cookery in Galicia (on the Atlantic coast) and this would be a perfect partner to a plate of garlicky prawns or grilled squid."

Rich and creamy with exotic fruit aromas, with fresh mandarin notes and nuts on the palate.
"The rather bland packaging masks a high quality, interesting wine, which instantly wins over all who taste it. On the nose there is a rich, creamy complexity whilst the palate is buoyed by luxurious, peachy fruit and fresh acidity. Not all wines made by expat winemakers are special, but this is! It would be a great alternative to chardonnay, having the weight and feel of an expensive white burgundy."

Muga's Reserva has a lovely bouquet of vanilla and strawberry aromas that follow through elegantly on the palate. (Spain)
"I've been following the Muga family wines since first tasting their 1987 vintage many years ago, and finally persuaded them to sell to Majestic during my years as a buyer in the early 1990s. The wines are unashamedly old-fashioned, being made in huge wood vats and fined using egg white. Unlike many modern Riojas they retain the traditional soft, strawberry fruit character and are fantastically balanced. This offering, from the amazing 2004 vintage, will age effortlessly for up to 20 years."

This intensely coloured wine is dense black with a purple rim. The complex palate shows notes of chocolate, leather and rich cassis.
"Distinct tones of smoky bacon, black pepper, blackcurrant and violets promise a palate which does not disappoint, with chocolate, sweet plum and spice. Well-structured tannins and a soft, rounded body will make this wine a perfect accompaniment with steak. "
