  • A bottle of Rully Blanc 2005 Vincent Baron

A cracking value Rully from the Côte Chalonnaise region of Burgundy, showing rich citrus fruit with streaks of minerality and soft buttery oak flavours.

"It is always a pleasure when a new arrival impresses and, for under a tenner, this does seriously impress! Produced on sandy soils in the Côte Chalonnaise, Rully is normally early drinking and this example is no exception. The fully mature palate of hazelnuts intermingled with ripe green apple and citrus fruit give a truly outstanding value for money Burgundy. A must try with roast chicken."

  • A bottle of Crego e Monaguillo Godello 2007 Monterrei

Crego e Monaguillo Godello 2007 Monterrei

Large fluctuations in temperatures in Galicia preserve and intensify the aromatics, resulting in a wine with ripe apple and rose petal aromas and a fresh, silky palate. (Spain)

"Boosted by the strong Spanish economy, in recent years the quality of winemaking there has leapt incredibly, especially outside the well-known regions with less of an export market. Made by a husband and wife team in the Galicia region, and from the frankly obscure Godello grape, this would have been a tough sell until recently. However, it's time to plough your own furrow and try this, because it's lovely. There is a great tradition of fantastic fish cookery in Galicia (on the Atlantic coast) and this would be a perfect partner to a plate of garlicky prawns or grilled squid."

About buying Fine Wine at Majestic
Feel free to mix Fine Wines with “regular” wines to make up your order of 12 bottles (or more!) in total. However, at least 6 bottles must be Fine Wine products, because Fine Wines require special distribution from our temperature-controlled Fine Wine Centre in London.

"The Jomain siblings have been running this Domaine since the early 1990's. This Puligny-Montrachet shows crushed hazelnuts, fresh peach and brioche on the nose , followed by layers of honey, grapefruit and minerals on the palate. Try this old world classic with organic roast chicken."

  • A bottle of Quinta de Azevedo Vinho Verde 2007

Quinta de Azevedo Vinho Verde 2007

This high quality single estate wine has a grassy, lemony aroma and a clean, crisp yet concentrated finish.

    • Bronze medal IWC 2007

"Vinho Verde is almost terminally untrendy because of its naff 1970s associations. Carefully chosen however it can offer real pleasure and a point of difference from most white wines around now. Firstly it's low in alcohol (only 11.5% in this case) with a spritz and crisp acidity which keep it fresh and briliantly complement the sort of light summer food the long summer (!) will demand."

Vignes de Nicole Chardonnay Viognier 2007 Les Domaines Paul Mas, Vin de Pays d'Oc

The Chardonnay and Viognier grapes for this blend were fermented separately, with the intention of maximizing the characteristics of each in the final wine. The result is delicious, with mango, pineapple and vanilla characters and a long finish.

"If you like the well-rounded elegance of Chardonnay, and the tropical fruit aromas of Viognier, then look no further. The Vignes de Nicole combines the two brilliantly, with the Viognier adding a fresh, peachy zing to the Chardonnay’s ripe apple backbone. "

  • "The rather bland packaging masks a high quality, interesting wine, which instantly wins over all who taste it. On the nose there is a rich, creamy complexity whilst the palate is buoyed by luxurious, peachy fruit and fresh acidity. Not all wines made by expat winemakers are special, but this is! It would be a great alternative to chardonnay, having the weight and feel of an expensive white burgundy."

  • A bottle of Bourgogne Blanc 2006 Fortin

    Bourgogne Blanc 2006 Fortin

The nose reveals a beautiful aromatic complexity of pears, green apples and grapefruit nuances. The acidity and suppleness of fruit are in perfect harmony and display the elegance and richness of this Burgundian Chardonnay.

"As Burgundy from the famous Côte d’Or gets beyond the reach of many customers, the vineyards further south have taken up the challenge to produce excellent wine. Formerly blended into mass-market wines, many producers are now vinifying carefully, using good quality oak, and creating crisp, complex wines that are a world away from blowsy Australian Chardonnay. Made especially for us by the dynamic winemakers at the well-known Domaine des Deux Roches, this is a great example - great as an aperitif or with food, especially if the sun’s out."
