Orion is a riveting example of Syrah and surely one of the finest produced anywhere in the world. Sean Thackrey's methods are not what one would describe as textbook, production is tiny and he manages to produce spell-binding wines of great intensity and harmony. With a nose of crushed rock, black fruit and pepper, it will drink well in its youth and keep fro 15 years.

"Very dark purple. Funkissimo on the nose... Very lively and teeming with life with hints of leather, liquorice and elderberries. Rewarding. Not cheap. You need to find a friend to share the two-bottle purchase with. Round and layered. The evolution of this should be fascinating. Very dry finish. Drink 2009-15. 17.5 points."
