"The 2004 Shiraz 'The McRae Wood' spent 17 months in predominantly American oak and was bottled unfiltered. It is a glass-coating inky purple with an expressive bouquet of pain grille, pepper, pencil lead, bacon, and blueberry. Intense, mouth-filling and structured, it will evolve for 3-5 years and drink well through 2020." Jay Miller, The Wine Advocate, 91 points

"This has long been a favourite of mine. To me, the McRae Wood Shiraz is to Australia, what Forts de Latour is to Bordeaux. Inky in colour, the wine delivers a knockout nose of ripe black fruits, licorice, and crushed black pepper. The rich and concentrated palate of licorice, plums, and sweet oak is well integrated, and held together by the fine tannins."
