SAUVIGNON BLANC

Sauvignon Blanc is cultivated all around the world, but is particularly successful in the New Zealand region of Malborough, where wines have an unmistakable gooseberry character, and the Loire Valley regions of Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé where the wines have a minerally and herby style. Although typically fermented in steel, Sauvignon can also be oaked; a technique used in the Napa Valley, (California) to produce Fumé Blanc.

Château d'Yquem 2005 Sauternes, 1er Cru Supèrieur Classé

Slightly closed on the nose at this stage, with subtle notes of white flowers and candied tropical fruits. On the palate, this is supremely well balanced, with rich, unctuous honeyed fruit, balanced by a touch minerality and a deliciously fresh touch.
