Grape

Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay

Origin
Emmanuel Delaille uses lutte raisonée, or minimum intervention techniques, as well as restricting yields to ensure optimum quality and ripeness of the grapes. Cheverny was promoted to full AC status in 1993 and allows Chardonnay in the blend as is showcased in this wine.
Taste
A light, golden colour. The nose displays a characteristic Loire grassiness backed up by flint and minerality. The palate is crisp and zingy with notes of tangy apples leading to a soft, rounded finish.
Enjoy
A period of maturation on lees has added complexity to a wine that is delicious as an apéritif, or a partner to simple Asian cuisine.

    Good Value

This makes a welcome change to NZ SB. Crisp, dry and only a touch of fruit. Very drinkable!

    Lovely

Very nice drinking. The small amount of chardonnay takes the acidity down a bit and gives more body.

A Good SB at a great price

This is a lovely wine, it has a "cats pee" nose, and a great balance between exotic fruits, some earthiness and acidity. I like NZ SB, but this is more elegant and understated. At this price worth a 5* rating.

Grapefruit Citrus Zing but not as dry as you'd think

This wine is about as close to grapefruit juice in flavour and acidity as you can get. Certainly not dry, unless I got a bad bottle, I'd describe the after taste as quite chemical without any real depth of overall. Disappointing given the reviews.

Press Reviews

  • "A Sauvignon Blanc-based Loire white that could stand shoulder to shoulder with many a Sancerre. Appley, crisp and herbal with a grassy, aniseedy finish. Complex stuff. 88 points"

  • "This single-estate Loire wine is mainly Sauvignon Blanc with just a splash of Chardonnay. The result is a greengage and citrus-charged wine with minerally streaks. Great value but good enough to pour as an aperitif."
