Origin
Settled by Polish immigrants in the 1800s, the Polish Hill river is a delightful sub-region of the Clare Valley, home to the finest growing conditions for Riesling in Australia. The Riesling vines are over 25 years old and planted at 480-510 metres above sea level.
Taste
Lime, lemon and grapefruit aromas on the nose with hints of honeysuckle, Riesling's classic petrol aromas and white flowers. A crisp, minerally wine with citrus undertones, vibrant acidity and length.
Enjoy
A fantastic apéritif, partner to oily seafood, Asian cuisine or honey-glazed slow roasted pork hock. Enjoy over the next four years.

    Nope!

I can get by the nose. I can get by the texture. But I can't forgive the sheer flat finish. I won't be troubling my rack with this one again.

    Not for me

I tend to agree with Keynshamwine. Low abv + interesting origin/pedigree tempted me to a double-bottle purchase. Have quaffed many Majestic Rieslings and this was my first disappointment. Very strong (petrol + grass) on the nose and a full, dull, sour taste, verging on the bitter. Prepared to accept aging may help and/or drinking a day or 2 after opening; other than that, it's down to your palate.

    Textbook Clare Riesling

This was the 2010 (Majestic please only offer one vintage at a time online not 2009/10). Nose of kerosene and citrus. Refreshing- almost bracing. Would be great with seared scallops and chili.

You've got to like the petrol thing...

Just done a home wine tasting with 12 people, not really wine geeks. This wine split people like marmite... they loved it or (mostly) hated it.Truth is, only 2 people liked it. It really is very kerosene on the nose, not quite so much taste but still there in the front. Get past the fuel and its packed with fruit. I think if I was interesed in Riesling again I'd look for something a bit more restrained.

Press Reviews

  • "If you're a fan of shoe polish aromas in your Riesling, this is for you. It is an engaging smell that we at Wine Gang HQ think works in small doses. The palate on this wine is much crisper and cleaner with some serious mineral purity and zesty lime freshness. Will continue to develop in cellar for at least 5-6 years. Score: 90/100 "
