Pinot Noir produces deliciously smooth wines with ripe silky tannins and juicy red summer fruit. Although it is famed for producing the red wines of Burgundy, and in particular, the Côte d’Or, Pinot Noir is now widely cultivated outside of Burgundy, in regions that mirror its cool growing conditions, such as Central Otago, New Zealand, the Yarra Valley, Australia and Carneros, California. With wild loganberry fruit on the nose, this has a perfumed, smoky note in the glass. On the palate, the tannins are evident, but well balanced and not at all extracted. There is dark berry fruit and an almost steely mineral vein. Elegantly fresh on the finish, this is very fine indeed.
