Pinot Noir

Origin
'Les Mouchottes' is situated near the village of Villers La Faye and produced from old vines. The appellation of Hautes-Côtes de Nuits was formed in 1961, allowing the quality production of quality wines from less well-known areas of Burgundy.
Taste
A fruit driven nose of blackberry, red cherry and toasty vanillin oak, with earthy, rich and ripe fruit flavours on the palate of integrated oak and spice. An easy drinking style with a soft, clean finish
Enjoy
Match with duck, lamb or rabbit dishes as well as cold meat platters. Drinking well now or over the next three years.

    Don't go here

Burgundy has a reputation for producing a lot of overpriced wine and this is a prime example. Thin, not much fruit and no finish. This should be much better. BTW I am a real Burgundophile.

    smooth ten pounder

Working my way through the Pinot Noirs that Majestic offer from New Zealand and France and this from memory is one of the best. Dark berry flavours, smooth (just about!) with sufficient depth (unlike some southern France Pinots). If you spend more ' course they are going to be better but if you are cost conscious then its better than 15 pound varieties from NZ.

    Pretty average

This is as good as any generic burgundy I have tased at this price but like most generic burgundies it lacks any real depth of flavour. Has confirmed my long held belief that if you want decent red burgundy you need to be spending £15+ a bottle.

  • "..a brilliant example of what one of the outlying regions of the Côte d'Or can achieve. Snap up this gorgeous, perfumed, gamey, smoky, leaf mould-scented and utterly seductive, damson plum-packed pinot noir before it sells out. "
