    Awful

Perhaps the quality control at the vineyard is poor? This wine was as weak as dishwater and about as pleasant. The colour was pale, the nose non-existent and it had no life whatsoever. The taste wasn't much better. I've not had many wines that made me want to ask for my money back, but this is one. Anyone want my second bottle?

    Brilliant Light Burgundy

A brilliant light burgundy in the style of d'angerville Volnay at a fraction of the cost. Best served decanted or even left in the decanter 24 hours before drinking.

    Inoffensive

I have the 2010, but I have to say I am a little disappointed. There is not a lot to this wine. Pleasant, but won't be buying again

    Very moorish, easy, light wine

My tastes have changed recently so that I can't handle heavy, strong red wines so much like rhones and bordeaux. I was looking for a more fruity, light red wine with a little less alcohol and knew Potel was highly rated and I'm also a bit of a francophile try as I might to convert myself. I tried some New World Pinot's but didn't like them. This though is perfect -not serious but very uplifting at the end of a hard day, can be almost drunk as an aperatif and you can drink it till the cows come home. Give me more!

    Very fine

I loved this wine's finesse and elegance. It is 100% on the fruity side, a lot of strawberries popping out of the glass. But what I find perhaps more interesting is the mouth feel: very silky, just about the right tannins for such a light wine, supple, and juicy, as someone up there has described. A fine example of Pinot Noir with its pale red colour, opposite to the purple/black opaque sort of stuff that floods the market these days. All in all, this one is a very polished wine. And you can't dissociate it from the 7.99 price, which makes it a very good value for money when it comes to basic, uncomplicated and pleasant Old World Pinot Noir.

    nice pinot

wanted the 2010 vintage but that was sold out so tried the 2011. this really is cracking pinot for £7.99 with vibrant crunchy red fruit, lovely acidity and a lick of oak to finish. lovely weight of alcohol (12%) makes it a fantastic red for most food. will trade up for the potel cotes de nuit next time

Staff Reviews

  • The Epitomy of 'Value for Money'

"This is without doubt my favourite sub £15 red Burgundy! Offering generous berry fruit and just a hint of vanilla, this offering from always impressive Nicolas Potel has just enough body to stand up to game birds but is gentle enough to pair with soft cheeses."

Press Reviews

  • Fresh and bright but there a juicy quality to it (2010 Vintage)

"A vibrant and charming cherry and pomegranate filled nose with a creamy edge to the fresh fruit. The core of the palate is fresh and bright but there a juicy quality to it that's pretty generous and very honest for a generic Burgundian Pinot Noir. Rating: 87/100 (The Wine Gang, www.thewinegang.com November 2012)"

  • Traditional and tightly structured Pinot Noir (2010 Vintage)

"Have a crack at Potel Bourgogne Pinot Noir Vieilles Vignes, which – especially after decanting – offers a fine introduction to the more traditional and tightly structured Pinot Noir. (Olly Smith, The Mail on Sunday, 12th August 2012)"

  • Great value for money (2010 Vintage)

"Nicolas Potel’s 2010 Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes Pinot Noir is great value for money and bursts with terrific, elegant, ripe, smoky, gamey, strawberry-laden fruit. (Jane MacQuitty, The Times, 14th July 2012)"

  • "Tender lamb shanks meet their match with a good yet humble red Burgundy. Step forward Nicolas Potel’s 2009 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Vieilles Vignes whose soft velvety tannins and gamey palate echo those of the lamb and it’s sweet, earthy root vegetables."
