Merlot is Bordeaux’s most planted grape variety, dominating the wines of right bank appellations St Emilion and Pomerol, and contributing to the Cabernet Sauvignon dominated wines of the Médoc. Merlot is also grown in the South of France, and the New World regions of Chile, and Australia, where its soft plummy red fruit character is used to soften heavy Cabernet Sauvignons.

The palate is elegant and refined with vibrant berryfruit to the fore. Distinctive and not as heady as some, this has taken on a bit more weight since bottling.
"Medium to full-bodied with exceptional precision and definition, this beautifully textured wine stands out as one of the most successful wines of this irregular vintage." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 93 points
"..a forward, medium-bodied, pretty effort revealing notes of cranberries, black cherries, cassis, and earth. Full of finesse it should be consumed over the next 10-12 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
"...The wine is fully mature and soft, with beautiful concentration and purity…" 92 points, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Closed but promising, this is a tannic, masculine style of wine in 2006, with an inky bluish/purple color as well as aromas of incense, charcoal, smoked meats, and the classic creme de cassis that one finds in the top Pauillacs. 92 points. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate.
More compact than many in this vintage, this has pleasing harmony and gentle direction lent to the fruit by soft, round tannins. A forward and attractive La Mission.
"…Subtle but substantial, layered, and textured, with medium body as well as up-front flavors, low acidity, and ripe tannin…" Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
The second wine of the famous first growth Château Margaux from what was a fantastic vintage for Merlot.
"A fabulous wine, and one of the two greatest Talbots of the last 50 years, this wine still has a very murky garnet/plum/purple color and a spectacular nose…" Robert Parker, Bordeaux Book, 3rd Edition
Beautiful aromas of tobacco, saddle leather, coffee and cassis, follow through on the palate, which is a full bodied backward style with plenty of ripe tannins and glyercin, giving the wine a lush finish.
Displaying a harmony, succulence and lushness as impressive as any wine in the commune.
A rich, powerful wine that shows plenty of toasty oak, spice and earthy aromas. The palate delivers firm tannins alongside classic fruit flavours of cherries, blackberries and blackcurrants.
