    Bit young

A nice wine but could benefit from another few years on the rack.

Excellent value, good example of Haut Medoc

A favourite here since the 2004 vintage - consistent quality and very good value. Good body and finish with all the required characteristics of its appellation. I hope to buy more in the future.

    What a corker

I had no problems with the corks and have not come accross a better claret sub £15!

    Great Value

This chateau is highly rated by many wine experts. I found the bouquet a pleasant combination of fruit and vanilla. Taste was rich, powerful with plenty of length. For the money it's a great wine from a great vintage. Enjoy!

    Very Disappointing

No fruit to speak of, tasted like a claret from a poor vintage. Thin, unappealing. I do hope the other clarets I've bought from you revcently are a lot better than this.

Press Reviews

  • "2005 was a great Bordeaux vintage, only eclipsed in recent years by 2009. So I’d rather have a bottle of this claret that is not even of cru classé (or classed growth) quality, than the The Laughing Magpie. Made from two-thirds cabernet, to one-third merlot, with a dash of petit verdot and part-aged in new oak, this overdelivers on every front. I adored its classy, full, fat, gamey, cedary, blackcurranty fruit."

  • "A cracking vintage and some serious value on offer here. Tobacco and truffle on the nose with a silky, soft palate layered with strata of flavours and a decent spine of tannin to match with a roast or hard cheeses. Reasonably well balanced and will happily age for another five years or more. One of this month's Five Wines to lay down. Score: 89/100"
