Grape

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot

Origin
Part of the Domaines Rothschild until 1990, this estate is now owned and managed by brothers-in-law Gaetan Charloux and Andrew McInnes. A 50/50 Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon blend, grown on a clay and gravel site in Blaignan, and aged in oak for 12 months.
Taste
Attractively ripe fruits on the nose, with hints of earth and undergrowth, followed by a palate of well-integrated tannins and a subtle liquorice note.
Enjoy
At its best with with beef, lamb or game, an hour or so after decanting.

    Excellent but harsh

2nd Majestic 2001 claret tasted. Stunning nose that says this is something special, has balance, clarity, cleanness and good fruit. But in the mouth it is astringent, bitter, harsh but with good fruit. A really well made wine but you will either love it or hate it. Personally I prefer wines that caress my tongue to this that bites it. But still tempted to see if it will soften in a couple of years. 3.5.

  • "For Bordeaux drinkers on a budget, this is a lovely bottle of what used to be known as luncheon claret. Very Cabernet Sauvignon, very elegant and drinking beautifully now: light and slightly gamey with polished tannins, fresh acidity and understated oak. Score: 89/100"
