Grape

Origin
The Cruz de Piedra estate is now in its second generation of family ownership. Established in 1973 by Sigifredo Alonso, the estate's vines are now mature, and produce excellent quality fruit in their location 1000m above sea level, where they are irrigated by snowmelt.
Taste
Deep ruby red in colour. The aromas are of ripe bramble and red fruits, with hints of pudding spice and delicate oak. Concentrated and juicy on the palate, with robust but fine-grained tannins.
Enjoy
At its best with rare beef or lamb steaks, rubbed with garlic and rosemary.

Excellent. Needs a little time time breathe

On opening it tastes very New World and overbright. Settles down after an hour or more. Excellent.

    Great when not corked

I bought 2 bottles of this and tried one. It was almost certainly corked, and I left the other one for a while. Tried it instore expecting not a very impressive wine, and like JBR, I was very impressed. You really do get a lot of wine for your money here. I will certainly be stocking up with this soon.I only wish that the makers go down the New World route these days and bung a screw cap on it!

    Happy days

Bought a case of this to use for a dinner party. Well received by all and a definite success. It needs a generous amount of time to breathe (I opened at 9am) and improved immensely as it gradually came to room temperature.

Would not pay more than £3 for this wine

Too young and the price does not reflect the quality. Tastes almost like a carton wine. If you get it for £3-4, then buy it, otherwise don't invite friends with this one...

    Fantastic

I could not believe how much wine I got for my money. This wine blew me away. So many layers of flavours and intensely rewarding in its long and fruit flavoured finish. It has something else that makes it stand taller than other wines at the same price. HIGHLY recommended.
