Surprisingly Gluggable
I am always wary of Malbec's with a price tag of £5 or under... well, most wine with a price tag of £5 or under for that matter... but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I was putting together a case and needed a sixth bottle to complete my order and still stay within my budget. This one was a Majestic reccomendation, so I thought I'd take a risk. Naturally, it lacks the guts that most pricier, more matured Malbecs have to offer, but this is a very drinkable red which, especially at this price, should not be sniffed at. The initial after taste leaves the tongue a little dry, but give it a couple of seconds and you will get a nice mouth warming sensation that leaves you wanting more. If you are looking for an affordable red for a dinner party, then I would reccommend the Gestos Malbec which packs quite a bit more of a punch and is a favourite of mine... but if it's nicely priced (dare I say 'cheap') everyday wine you're after that doesn't taste of paint thinner, the Esperanza will definately suffice.
