Grape

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec

Origin
This 'Bordeaux blend' comes from various sites within Hawkes Bay, including the famed Gimblett Gravels area, which provides a warm climate and stony, free-draining soils, suiting the Bordeaux grape varieties superbly. 12 months maturation in oak completes the package.
Taste
Vibrant and fairly un-Bordeaux-like in its fruit character, this wine is richly cassis falvoured, with a soft ripeness to its ample tannins, making it bold but instantly approachable.
Enjoy
Drink now with rich meat dishes, or keep for up to 5 years for further softness and development.

    Excellent

I found this to be a quality, richly flavoured wine - went well with a range of foods served as a hot buffet. I intend to buy again.

    Underwhelming...

I love Villa Maria's Sauvignon Blanc, and so had high hopes for this as a first try of their red wine. Sadly I found it lacked depth and flavour and was really rather boring. Which is a real shame because I wanted it to be as delicious as other reviews had experienced.

    The secret is out

I guess the NZ reds are becoming well known now. I try to avoid blends, but this was just lovely.

    Uncomplicated well rounded NZ red

Made a change to the usual NZ pinot's and went down well with unseasonal English barbie. Most quaffers were unsure about country of origin. Sensible price.
