Origin
The Mendoza region is Argentina most important wine growing region. Vineyards are planted at altitude of between 600 and 1,100 metres above sea level, in the shadow of the Andes Mountains. Mendoza's Alluvial rich soils accounts for 70% of Argentina's wine production.
Taste
Deep ruby coloured with smoky black fruits of cassis, blackberry and spice. The concentration of the wine performs well above its price point with soft tannins and a long finish.
Enjoy
Eminently drinkable on its own or with red meat and strong cheeses. Drinking well now and over the next two years.

    Surprisingly Gluggable

I am always wary of Malbec's with a price tag of £5 or under... well, most wine with a price tag of £5 or under for that matter... but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I was putting together a case and needed a sixth bottle to complete my order and still stay within my budget. This one was a Majestic reccomendation, so I thought I'd take a risk. Naturally, it lacks the guts that most pricier, more matured Malbecs have to offer, but this is a very drinkable red which, especially at this price, should not be sniffed at. The initial after taste leaves the tongue a little dry, but give it a couple of seconds and you will get a nice mouth warming sensation that leaves you wanting more. If you are looking for an affordable red for a dinner party, then I would reccommend the Gestos Malbec which packs quite a bit more of a punch and is a favourite of mine... but if it's nicely priced (dare I say 'cheap') everyday wine you're after that doesn't taste of paint thinner, the Esperanza will definately suffice.

    Not great

Whilst this wine is certainly drinkable, it isn't very exciting. I don't think it's as full bodied as the guide claims either. Lacks complexity and is largely unsatisfying.

    Great Value Malbec

Discovered this on my latest visit to Majestic. Having previously bought the Alamos & Argenta Malbec, Seeing the price on this "New" label I thought I'd give it a try. What a revelation, lots of ripe dark fruit and so soft and drinkable. I'll definately be buying more of this one.

    OK

There is nothing wrong with this wine but it is not a category D wine - it is light and fruity which is not what I like.

    What happened to the price?

A year ago this was a great value wine at £4.79. Now the price is 15% higher, but the wine is the same. It's good, but not very good value anymore.

If you consider VAT, Duty, Fuel, Inflation generally, poor exchange rates I think the 15% will be comprised of all of these. Its still great value compared to other sub £6 Malbecs!

    Disappointing

Drinkable but not a touch on the Argento which is only £1 more.
