Grape

Grenache, Tempranillo

Origin
Bodegas Ramón Bilbao is situated in a privileged location: Haro, in Rioja Alta, a paradise where Rioja's emblematic grape variety, Tempranillo, grows best. From vines with an average age of 40 years, this concentrated, intense Rioja is a blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha.
Taste
This soft and supple wine is vibrant ruby in colour with aromas of red cherry and blackberry fruit and slight hints of vanilla on the medium bodied palate.
Enjoy
Well structured with a long and pleasant finish which would be ideal with red meat stews and cheeses.

Good quality wine for the price

I served this at a dinner party with slow baked ribs and received lots of compliments. A rioja fan said it was lovely. I had some too and it was very smooth. Really good wine for the price.

A bit simplistic and light, disappointing

Lacked body and depth with a little too much sourness on the palate for my taste. Didn't live up to the "single vineyard" billing for me.

    Lovely, easy drinking rioja

I am a big rioja fan and, whilst this wine is not as full bodied as many riojas it is nevertheless a very pleasant and easy drinking wine. I would agree with another reviewer in that it improves with being allowed to breath. All in all I consider this to be a very good value wine for the price and is definitely worth a try.

Staff Reviews

  • " This wine blends the classy Tempranillo, the sophisticated and complex classic Rioja grape with the soft and luxurious Grenache in equal measure. This provides a modern, easy drinking wine that can be enjoyed on its own but can nevertheless hold its own with all kinds of food, especially roasts and cheeses."
