Origin
Plan de Dieu is a small appellation in the centre of the southern Rhône, between Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, originally cultivated in the middle ages. Domaine Durieu was created in 1976, owning vineyards established in the early 1900's, and more recent plantings.
Taste
The wine's 70% Grenache provides a backbone of warm, bright red, jammy fruit, while the addition of other traditional varieties gives a firm tannic structure and a spicy uplift.
Enjoy
Drink now or within the next 3-5 years, with rustic French or English cuisine.

    Surprisingly good budget Rhone

A little smoother and more balanced than your average sub-£10 Rhone, this was a pleasant surprise. Initially, the red fruit is quite fresh, but then warm background spices and the soft tannins makes themselves felt. Very good value at this price.

    Good value Rhone red

Good value especially with the discount. Typical hearty Rhone red with a touch of finesse and smoothness, a bit of spice and tannin, just hits the spot for my palate. Bought a couple of bottles for everyday drinking and in fact it is really a bit better than that. Will be back for more!

  • All pleasure (2010 Vintage)

"Dark ruby. Very sweet and cinnamon. Lots of rewarding strawberry fruit. Luscious. This just washes over the palate! All pleasure. But there is so much tannin that it needs to be reserved for the table. Tingling and long. A wine full of real life as opposed to a commercial construct. (Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 25th May 2012)"
