70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Another classy effort from Pontet-Canet, a highly rated Pauillac property on a real roll. There's all the classic Cabernet characteristics here (blackcurrant, black cherry, pencil lead) with a smart minerality. The palate is smooth and polished, with well integrated, fine tannins. In a potentially difficult vintage they've not tried to do too much, resulting in a pleasantly open Pontet-Canet that will drink a little earlier than the norm. Drink 2012-2022. 16.0 points (out of 20)

"Quite rich and sweet on the nose. Not very Pauillac-like! Good, firm tannins on the palate. A creditable attempt to spin some interest out of this vintage. But pretty low key. Tannins almost too dominant. Watery finish. But there is no shortage of effort here and the wine should have a longer life than many. Just a bit too like sandpaper in terms of texture. 16.5 points (out of 20)."

"Crushed blackberry, currant and light licorice. Full-bodied, with lovely ripe tannins and a long, fruity finish. Balanced and refined. A beauty. 88-91 points."
