Origin
The Malbec Reserva from the Vinalba estate has previously won a Decanter award for its quality. Sourced from vineyards at the foot of the Andes, grown at different altitudes to achieve the perfect balance between tannin and acidity.
Taste
This wine literally wraps itself around every corner of your mouth with its ripe dark plum fruits, sweet tannins and dark chocolate and mocha. Flavours linger for a long time.
Enjoy
A full-bodied wine, yet with juicy tannins, this wine is best enjoyed with food. Peppered steak or lamb are ideal companions.

    A Powerful Red

Loved this at £8.99. A powerhouse of a red in all respects. Robust, alcoholic, yet velvety smooth and rounded. It needed some air and was at its' best after decanting. These Argentinian Malbecs just get better and better.

    Beautifully Smooth

I love the smooth and silky texture of this wine; full-bodied without too much fruit. Have just included it in an order for the third time

Compares unfavourably to many Malbecs in my view. Wanted to like it but it was pretty nondescript - inoffensive but in no way memorable and there are certainly better out there. Definitely benefits from decanting/letting it breathe for a good hour or so though.

    way too oaky and heavy

Didn't enjoy this at all. Some nice plum and blackberry fruit on the nose, with lots of smoky oak and leather. But on the palate, the oak dominates, mutes the fruit and inhibits any balance. Better with food, a steak would be ideal, and it has a nice soft texture with fine tannins, but for me there is too much oak, too much alcohol, and it has very short length. There are many better examples of Malbec at a similar price.

    not impressed - lazy

Thought this was bretty - sweaty saddles - and uncouth. No dry finesse. No evolving flavour. Would avoid.

I did my homework and opening this wine two hours before drinking. Is very robust, and simply very good. To those that think that the oak is too dominant, go for a chilean carmenere, I prefer the malbecs.

  • Comfort blanket wine

"The thing that strikes me the most about this wine is the texture. It fills every corner of your mouth with rich plummy fruit and christmas cake spice. It is incredibly smooth and an absolute delight to enjoy on its own or with meaty dishes. This wine will make you give out a wee sigh of contentment as you sit down to relax for the evening with a glass (or two). As close to a comfort blanket as wine can get. Enjoy."

  • "Simply a great all round wine, this Malbec is one of my favourites. Great juicy tannins with dark plums and ripe fruit flavours, if you haven't given this a go yet you really should - you won't be disappointed."

Press Reviews

  • Remarkably smooth, silky and lush (2010 Vintage)

"Remarkably smooth, silky and lush but also showing nice poise, this malbec is oozing elegant blackcherry and blackberry fruit. (Jamie Goode, Sunday Express – 100 Best Red Wines under £10, 17th March 2013)"

  • ...

"A lovely inviting and distinctive nose of roast tomato and roast beetroot. The palate is more meaty than the nose suggests, with the texture, flavour and richness of liver followed by crisp acidity coming through on the finish. Rating: 89/100 Goes with: Barbecues, Red meat & Dark game."

  • "From Mendoza, Argentina, this is very ripe, fleshy and soft with rich lush mouthfeel. It is sweeter and lower in acidity than Rigal's Malbec."
