The Lodge Hill Riesling 2011 Jim Barry, Clare Valley

Straw coloured with green hues. Rich and lifted aromas of citrus fruit, nectarine and kumquat. Firm, zingy natural acidity on the palate, supporting flavours of white peach and mandarin orange.

The King's Thorn Pinot Gris 2011 Marlborough

Something of a thorn in the side for some winemakers, Pinot Gris requires a very measured approach in order to achieve a balance of texture, sweetness, acidity and fruit character.

Ten Minutes by Tractor Estate Pinot Noir 2009 Mornington Peninsular

As you dive down, you’ll pass through layers of snapped twig, spice, raspberry, umami, ripe cherry, nougat and more. The palate is equally evasive for, although it does not hold back its flavours, the journey on which it takes you isn’t immediately obvious. First, a cuddly hit of berry fruit. Then, on the middle palate, an array of sweet and savoury flavours, encompassing everything from beetroot leaves to rhubarb to tobacco and spice.

Ten Minutes By Tractor Estate Chardonnay 2009 Mornington Peninsular

The nose shows complex caramel and butter notes, not rich so much as deep. Layered on top are fruit aromas of white stonefruit and honeydew melon, themselves topped by a range of funky, savoury notes. It’s a luxurious wine for sure, one that delivers its caramel and stonefruit flavours on a bed of satin sheets and down pillows.

The palate is densely packed with stone fruit, lime, grapefruit and mineral characters and is richly textured with an incredibly long and intense finish.

A firm and tightly structured Sauvignon, reminiscent of the finest examples of the Loire. A fresh lemon and grapefruit backbone, sprinkled with cut grass notes and a smoky, stony minerality.

A youthful character on the nose, which brims with notes of lime, apple and melon. Equally zesty and fresh on the palate, but with an approachable softness of texture, and well rounded acidity.

St Clair Estate Selection Pinot Noir 2010/2011 Marlborough

Rich garnet core with a purplish rim. Aromas of ripe black cherries and currants, with a lifted raspberry note and a hint of vanilla. Fine tannins, medium palate weight, and good fruit concentration.

Spy Valley Gewürztraminer 2011 Marlborough

Spy Valley Wines is so named because of the satellite communications monitoring station that stands nearby, but is otherwise known as the Johnson Estate in the lower Waihopai Valley, established back in 1993 by Bryan and Jan Johnson.
