Grape

Pinotage

Origin
From the Val de Vie wine estate in the heart of the cape winelands, where wine production dates back to 1825. This is a deliberately modern offering by winemaker Bertus Fourie, who has concentrated on drawing out the coffee-like aromas of South Africa's signature grape.
Taste
Intense on the nose, with a bouquet of coffee, chocolate and cherry, with meaty, savoury hints. The tannins are ripe, perfectly suiting the round and mouth-filling plum and mulberry fruit.
Enjoy
Drink on its own or with red meat dishes. Bertus' recommends a blue-cheese-filled brandy snap with chocolate and roasted coffee beans!

    Decent

I thought this wine was decent enough for the price. However, SA Pinotage is usually my favourite and I've had far far better.

A nice everyday drinking wine, just a pity that you can buy it for half the price in South Africa.

An interesting and good value pinotage

Pinotage has a charcteristic nose and flavour and although it can be robust it is a smooth red and well suited to accompanying well-flavoured food. This is a good value pinotage although not as distinctive as some, which can have a bouquet of hot tar.

  • A latte wine for the money!

"Puns aside, this Pinotage has deep bramble fruit flavours and just a hint of mocha on the palate. It is full bodied but approachable and really did a lot to change my opinion of this South African staple! Perfect with red meats."
