Grape

Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah or Shiraz

Origin
Domaine La Garrigue is set in the heart of the Vacqueyras appellation area in the Southern Rhône. The estate was created in 1850, and has always been worked by the same family, spanning 6 generations.
Taste
Ripe blackberries, cherries, spice and suggestions of dried herbs. Rich and full bodied, with flavours of ripe plums, black cherries and hints of spices and liquorice, a soft mouthfeel and long finish.
Enjoy
This wine has definite ageing potential but can also be enjoyed now. A superb match to rich roasted meats or liver and bacon.

OK but there are better wines for the price

Over alcoholic effort lacking full Rhone flavour. Disappointing considering its heritage.

    Slips down

Wonderfully mellow, in a way that masks the strong ABV. No overly strong flavours or aftertaste. A rich but gentle wine. Recommended.

Slightly heavy - but very good

I love Vacqueras - and perin is the favourite - but this is a heavier wine - I still have a bottle and am reluctant top open it - so it must be good!

  • Wild blackberry fruit and a touch of dark raisin and pepper spice (2010 Vintage)

"One of two new wines from this small producer in the southern Rhône, this classic blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre is a bit of a beast in terms of structure, depth and power – it's pretty dense and full in the mouth with wild blackberry fruit and a touch of dark raisin and pepper spice, as well as some chewy tannin, but there's some attractive, violet-like floral touches, too, in a chunky but polished red that will certainly repay a few years in the cellar. Rating: 91/100 (The Wine Gang, www.thewinegang.com November 2012)"
