Burgundy 2006

Vineyards above Flagey-Echezeaux

We are delighted to introduce an exclusive en primeur offer for the 2006 wines from Bouchard Père ∓ Fils and William Fèvre.

The 2006 whites are every bit the equal, if not better, than the illustrious 2005s, possessing fabulous aromatics and good weight and structure. The reds are the classic examples of the fresh and elegant wines on which Burgundy has built its reputation.

Prices are relatively stable, and look particularly compelling alongside many 2006 Bordeaux wines of similar quality. Our buying team has, as ever, judged the wines strictly on their merits. We believe our Bouchard and Fèvre offer is a fantastic opportunity to acquire sought-after wines made in small volumes at advantageous prices.

We tasted a range of 2006s in the atmospheric surroundings of Bouchard's old Beaune cellars. The house of Bouchard Père & Fils has a long and illustrious history as one of the major domaines and négociants in Beaune. In 1791, following the French Revolution, the Bouchard family were able to purchase significant parcels of vineyard from the post-Revolutionary government, including their now famous 'Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus' vineyard in the Beaune Grèves premier cru.

In 1995 the company was purchased by the Henriot family from Champagne, who immediately set about investing in the quality of the wines produced. The culmination of this has been the construction of a fabulous, modern, gravity-fed cuvérie in Savigny-les-Beaune. 2006 was the second vintage produced with this facility on-stream.

Also under the Henriot umbrella, we also have a range of Chablis from William Fèvre, a domaine of rapidly growing repute thanks not least to consistently high Wine Advocate scores and the attentions of Burgundy expert Stephen Tanzer. Following the extremely popular 2005 offer, we have expanded the range of wines available this year to include some excellent value premiers crus, as well as the highly sought-after grands crus.

The wines are available to order online today and are due for delivery in the summer of 2008. Customers who have not ordered en primeur before should read our 'What is En Primeur?' page before ordering, and we advise all customers to read the 2006 vintage report, and be familiar with the timetable for delivery.
