Bonded Storage

Bonded warehouses are licensed by H.M. Customs & Excise to store wines on which duty and VAT has not been paid. This means that there is no 'release fee' when purchasing en primeur for delivery to a bonded account. Account holders pay a storage charge, charged at a rate per case per year. VAT, duty and a release charge are levied at the prevailing rates only when wines are released from the bond.

Since Majestic has acquired Lay & Wheeler, international wine merchants since 1854, we now recommend customers store their en primeur purcahses with Lay & Wheeler's Portfolio service. This service offers full insurance, 24 hour online access to your collection, expert consultants and ideal storage conditions, with your wines housed at Vinothèque in Burton-upon-Trent.

As a special offer for Majestic's en primeur customers, we are able to offer Lay & Wheeler's highly competitive storage rates without having to pay the annual Portfolio charge.*

Lay & Wheeler Portfolio Service

Lay & Wheeler’s Portfolio Service has been designed to provide a comprehensive cellarage solution for your wine, regardless of whether you intend to drink or sell. We aim to provide you with expert storage advice from our fine wine consultants; stable, temperature controlled conditions in the warehouse and the highest level of documentation. With the Portfolio Service our aim is to provide you with all the details you need to know about your wine, from individual case labelling for customer protection to drink dates, market valuations and tasting notes. You do not need to have purchased the wine from us, we can help arrange transfers from other merchants, or we can collect from your home. Normally there is a service charge of £35 per year. New Portfolio Service customers: if you indicate that you would like us to open an account for you, we will pass your name, address and contact details to Lay & Wheeler who will contact you directly to confirm the account has been set up and the wines received.

Existing Portfolio Service customers: when you transfer your Majestic en primeur purchases to an existing Portfolio Service account, a credit will be raised on the account for £35 to reimburse the charge for the current year. This credit will be valid against future storage charges; we are unable to offer a cash refund.

* Free Lay & Wheeler Portfolio Service offer is valid for customers transferring their Majestic en primeur purchases directly into a Portfolio Service account. Exemption from charges is guaranteed until at least 2011.

Other bonded storage options

We are also able to deliver en primeur to private accounts with Vinothèque or Octavian. Accounts must be opened privately with the Bond. Your account may incur a receiving charge, payable to the Bond, when the wines are deposited in your account, as per your account's terms. Bonds also offer a range of related services such as delivery, repackaging and supply of export documentation, for which additional charges may apply.

Octavian
Location	Corsham	What they say: "Octavian stores fine wines for over 1500 private customers with stock ranging from just a few cases to several thousand. Wine stored in our underground cellars is kept in optimum condition as the temperature and humidity are perfectly controlled by computer. The security at Octavian is also acknowledged as the highest in the industry giving customers complete piece of mind. In order to protect your investment we include all risk insurance in our charges which means wine is covered at full replacement value."
